Lorraine Feather: New York City Drag

Lorraine Feather - "New York City Drag"

Jazz singer/lyricist Lorraine Feather led the group 'Full Swing', whose End of the Sky release was a favorite on NAC radio. 'Full Swing' performed at the Monterey, Playboy and Kool Jazz festivals and at Carnegie Hall.

Lorraine's solo release, The Body Remembers, was hailed as "Witty, refreshing---an uncommon maiden voyage." by Jazz Times and "Manifestly brilliant" by London's Cresendo Magazine.

Lorraine has contributed lyrics for songs recorded by Phyllis Hyman, Kenny Rankin, Patti Austin and Diane Schuur. She has also written for television and film since 1992 and has earned seven Emmy nominations.

New York City Dragx is a colection of classic Fats Waller compositions with Lorraine's new lyrics and vocals. The album features lengendary stride pianist Dick Hyman (also the composer for numerous Woody Allen movies), who has accompanied Lorraine in L.A. and New York playing the Waller material, to rave reviews. Pianist Mike Lang led the L.A. sessions. Waller himself is showcased on track #12, which is his original performance of "Smashing Thirds" -- retitled "Cezanne" -- surrounded by live musicians.

Lorraine is the daughter of jazz writer Leonard Feather, and the goddaughter of Billie Holiday.

"Hip and original ... a phenomenon in this city of the overproduced and the undercreative." - Tony Gieske, The Hollywood Reporter

"What a joy, what a delight -- what a totally unexpected treat! She's puled off a very neat trick." - Chip Deffaa, The New York Post

"A tour de force. She's simply one of a kind." - Johnny Mandel, composer of "The Shadow of Your Smile"

"Sophisticated and swinging -- Fats would have loved it." - Chuck Niles, KLON

"I've listened umpteen times. It's absolutely wonderful in every way, no kidding." - Walter Becker, Steely Dan

"Stunning...extraordinary, both as compositions and as performances...she
sings her way through the tricky passages with a vivacious sense of swing."
- Don Heckman, the Los Angeles Times
